Present: Chris S., Elif, Bill, Chris P., Julie, Jim, Roman, Nilo
Items:
1. JdF
- Assays from weekend run look fine (post-can QC). Rbcl PCR still showing some positive, and arrays showing some (minor) positives, but background looks good.
- Spares: We will bring Betty in the plexi-box as a 'spare-parts tree'. While there may not be a total rebuild on the trip, she would provide parts for a quick DWSM repair early in the deployment if needed.
- CTD: getting serviced (new batteries) today.
- The only thing Science needs to pack are another filter rig and some carboys. Working that out with Doug on where those should go.
2. Drifter
- CS on Moe has been fixed. Roman is waiting on leaky waste until Julie goes on vacation (next week) before looking into that.
- Using 'Final Purge' after each WCR and 'MFB Final Purge' before PCR seems to remove enough contamination and saves waste space.
- McLane has a newly designed larger waste container. **we should look into purchasing, esp. for use with D-ESP.
- Julie has filtered 2L and 4L of Hawaii water. Takes about 1hr and 2:15, respectively through a 0.22um filter. She will do a power calc by comparing Watts up before and after.
- Here P/P are working; no inhibition despite larger amounts of seawater
- Roman to check carousel that was remounted.
- Arrays: Julie will set-up the probes and Roman will print while Julie is away. Julie will also list pucks she needs so they can be cleaned and ready-to-go when she returns.
3. Budget stuff for 2012 proposal
- Chris P will get her 900913 template to Jim for this year's budget input.
- Bill U. presented addenda to the budget that we will incorporate into the proposal.
- Any big-ticket items we need: a milli-Q water system?
Other Items:
- Roman heading to Spyglass this afternoon to help them with Lysis test---they need help. Their machine also seems to have a leak as bubbles are forming in one line.
- Does Spyglass machine have a name?
Neo Rebuild
-
- Seem to be having the static issue we've seen on other machines. Host needs a capacitor. Scott notified.
- the new Ruby code does not work on NEO. This issue may need to wait until Brent gets back
CTD Issues
- CTD used on Fall, 2010 cruise needs calibration (Fluorescence to Chlorophyll was off by factor of 3). Chris P, said adjustment was done on the fly by comparing CTD with actual niskine casts at 20m.
- There was also the CTD with the mis-calibrated chlorophyll; where is this CTD and what's been done?
- Bottom line: Roman will inventory the CTD stable. Find out what range Julie wants in Hawaii, and get one adjusted for that range.
MFB Issues
- MFB 4 will be the lab 'drop-in replacement' machine
- We will build up one more from the parts of two (and it still needs major software upgrade) for lab testing.
- We need a sense of who is doing what with the MFB's. We want to make sure and accomodate:
-
- Mark Strom at NOAA
- Steve Hallum at UBC (Steve will be coming here for sabbatical during 2012 to learn how ESP works)
